The Rutgers Health Osteoporosis Center provides risk evaluation, prevention strategies, and treatment of osteoporosis.

The center's multidisciplinary approach to addressing osteoporosis includes experts with national recognition for their work in metabolic bone disorders. Our team also includes endocrinologists, nurse coordinators, and radiologists who are proficient in bone density testing, along with nutritionists, a physical therapist, and a social worker. We also specialize in central dual-energy X- ray absorptiometry (DEXA) bone density tests.

A bone density test is the only test that can diagnose osteoporosis before a broken bone occurs. The test helps estimate the density of bones and the chance of breaking a bone. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends a bone density test of the hip and spine by a central DEXA machine to diagnose osteoporosis. The test is noninvasive, painless, and only takes about 25 minutes.
