I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and the Director of Multicultural Affairs. I am also affiliated with Rutgers Cancer Institute.
I received my undergraduate training at the University of Massachusetts and my medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University. After completing my medical studies, I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and completed her general surgery training at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. I served in the US Navy for 15 years. I received her fellowship training in surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. I was also chosen for the prestigious Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy in Boston, a program dedicated to developing transformative innovative leaders focused on health equity.
My research areas include identification and management of high-risk populations, disparities in surgical care and addressing health equity in cancer care at a systems level. I am the author of multiple publications and a reviewer for numerous surgical journals including JACS and Annals of Surgery. I am a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of Black Academic Surgeons and the current president of the Association of Women surgeons.
