Marissa Botwinick, DO, MS
- Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist
I am thrilled to be returning to my training institution as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. After my Pediatric Residency at Rutgers- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, I completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at New York Medical College.
My fellowship research project, “Targeting AML with Anti-CD123 Chimeric Antigen Receptor Modified NK cells” combined my interest in hematologic malignancy and cellular therapy. It also afforded me the opportunity to become proficient in state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, as well as recognition at national conferences. Additionally, during fellowship I was actively involved in a clinical research program through both investigator-initiated clinical trials and Children Oncology Group (COG) protocols. We also had an active bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy program with multiple investigator-driven therapeutic trials.
As a clinician I strive to provide my patients with compassionate and family-centered care. It is important to treat the patient as a whole and address both their physical and emotional needs. Furthermore, I recognize an oncologic or hematologic diagnosis can be overwhelming to caretakers and by educating families they can take a more active role in a patient’s treatment plan. A Central Jersey native myself, it gives me great pride to give back to my community as I care for children with various cancers and blood disorders.
I treat patients at both Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick and Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch providing comprehensive family-centered care with the most advanced treatment options including clinical trials, immunotherapy, and precision medicine.
